UFC 133: Davis vs. Evans Full Fight-card Update

The UFC has had some not-so-great events in past, and initially I thought UFC 133 Evans vs Davis was to be another "filler" but, with the recent updates to the card, it actually shaping up to be pretty decent event, maybe even PPV worthy.

Fight Card:
  • Mike Pierce vs. Johny Hendricks
  • Ivan Menjivar vs. Nick Pace
  • Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson vs. Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko
  • Alessio Sakara vs. Jorge Rivera
  • Brian “Bad Boy” Ebersole vs. Dennis “Superman” Hallman
  • Mike Brown vs. Nam Phan
  • Mike ‘Quicksand’ Pyle vs. Rory ‘The Water Boy’ MacDonald
  • Rogerio 'Minotoro' Nogueira vs. Rich 'Ace' Franklin
  • Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Vitor Belfort
  • Rafael Natal vs. Riki Fukuda

Main Event Breakdown

  • Stiking: Rashad Evans- I have to give it to Rashad because he has the more in impressive stand-up resume. Phil Davis has yet to show me any true diversity, though to his credit he does incorporate the head and leg kick in his arsenal, tools I feel are largely underrated.

  • Grappling: Again, advantage Rashad Evans. Rashad wrestled at Michigan State winning 2 or 3 NCAA National Championship although, Phil Davis is no shabby wrestler himself and is probably the stronger, more powerful of the two which, in terms of octagon control, I think will weight heavy in the clinch.

  • Experience: Advantage Rashad. OK, so on paper this fight looks easily to be Rashad's to win.   Rashad won the TUF, was headlined several events, fought in a couple of championship matches and is himself a former UFC champion.  So clearly he has an edge in experience.

Now, with all that said, Rashad had better be prepared for a tough, young and hungry fighter, that is not to be taken lightly.  Phil Davis has a lot to prove and even more to gain from this fight, so I think he'll come well prepared and ready to win.  Rashad on the other hand has a great deal to lose, consider he was supposed to fight for the championship twice (Shogun & Jon 'Bones' Jones) before settling and agreeing to fight Davis, a fighter ranked well under him in the lightweight standing.  Rashad will probably come out of this the victor, but by decision.   I don't see him stopping the kid.
