Following a story reported last week, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and light heavyweight champion Jon Jones have now verbally agreed to face each other at UFC 135 in Denver, Colorado. The fight is expected to become official for September 24th once the event is formally announced by the UFC.
Jackson is currently on a two fight win streak, with recent victories over Lyoto Machida and Matt Hammill. Jones, meanwhile, is on a four fight win streak. The only blemish on his record comes from a disqualification to Matt Hammill due to repeated illegal elbows.
This will be Jones’ first title defense since winning the belt after defeating Shogun Rua at UFC 128 in March. Jackson is a former champion, having defeated Chuck Liddell in May 2007. Jackson is the last light heavyweight to reign as champion for more than a year.
